Research News

Reducing fatigue in Long COVID-19: A feasibility study of a self-help intervention to reduce fatigue-related symptoms among patients in general practice” has finally been given the green light by the Northern care Alliance NHS Trust and the University of Manchester, and recruitment for this important study has finally started. The project is a feasibility study examining whether patients are compliant in following the self massage and mobility exercise developed by Dr Perrin and do the techniques help reduce the symptoms of Long-COVID. It is is due to finish at the end of 2023.

We express our thanks to Dr. Perrin’s research colleagues at The University of Manchester and Salford Royal Foundation NHS Trust: Lisa Riste, Adrian Heald Mark Hann, new research assistant Tom Mulholland and of course thanks to the Fund for Osteopathic Research into ME Charity Trust for funding this important study.

Stay tuned!

New Australian licensed practitioners

In December Dr. Perrin traveled to Perth, Western Australia where he trained up a group of practitioners at the home of osteopath Dr. Ray Power who with his wife Cathy played perfect hosts and all the group sampled Cathy’s amazing cuisine as well as learned the science behind the techniques and the practical skills needed to diagnose and treat patients with ME/CFS, FMS, and Fibromyalgia.

This was the first workshop Dr. Perrin has conducted ‘down under’ and he hopes to return in 2024 for a lecture tour of Australia and New Zealand.
We welcome  all our new Australian Colleagues to our expanding global family of licensed Perrin Technique (PnT) practitioners

FIRST PERRIN PRACTITIONERS IN SOUTH AMERICA

The Perrin Technique reached another corner of the world last month, as we welcomed three new licensed practitioners in Brazil! These are Jose De Alencar Rodrigues Da Cruz and Ary Llagostera Castro in Rio De Janeiro as well as Iara Bueno Louro who is located in Sao Paulo.

It was all smiles following the conclusion of the first-ever Perrin Practitioner workshop in South America, which was held at Ary Llagostera’s Osteopathic practice.

After a small but successful workshop, the hope is to continue to emulate this around the globe and help reach those patients in countries who still do not yet have a licensed Perrin Practitioner to turn to.

In view of keeping the work/life balance in order, Dr. Perrin squeezed in a visit to the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Gardens and swapped his PPE for a Rio Carnival costume!…

INTERNATIONAL ME/CFS AWARENESS DAY 2022

12th May 2022 will mark the 30th anniversary of International ME/CFS Awareness Day. This date was chosen as it coincides with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of modern nursing, who became chronically ill in her mid-thirties with an M.E.-like illness after she returned from the Crimean War, which sadly left her virtually bedridden for the rest of her life.

International ME/CFS Awareness Day is a time for the ME/CFS community, carers and allies to attend events, increase public awareness and share information to help educate friends, family, healthcare professionals and government officials about this debilitating condition. Ultimately, the goal is to promote a greater understanding of ME/CFS and the impact it can have on a person’s life.

We encourage all our Practitioners to raise awareness and express our solidarity this May. Whether that’s spreading the word on social media or in clinic, attending a #MillionsMissing event or wearing the colour blue to show support for the ME/CFS community.

LONG-COVID REPORT NOW PUBLISHED

Our latest paper on Long-COVID has just been published online!

Although an uncontrolled study, our results potentially suggest that a specific manual lymphatic technique could have benefit for Long COVID patients. It may be that early intervention and supportive treatments at the end of the acute phase of COVID-19 can help to lessen acute phase symptoms and prevent them from becoming chronic/enduring.

Reducing fatigue-related symptoms in Long COVID-19: a preliminary report of a lymphatic drainage intervention” can be found in the international journal Cardiovascular Endocrinology and Metabolism, and presents analysis of 20 Long-COVID patients’ data following 3 months of The Perrin Technique:

RAVE REVIEWS FOR RAKHEE

Biolab, a London-based medical referral laboratory for nutritional and environmental medicine, hosted a Long COVID Day conference in March with various speakers including Dr Sarah Myhill.

Another of those speakers was Dr Yassine Bendiabdallah. Dr Bendiabdallah is a Functional Medicine Specialist and co-founded the health & wellness centre ZEN Healthcare. His talk focused on the strategies for treating Long COVID, he mentioned Dr Perrin and how The Perrin Technique can help reduce the overload on the sympathetic nervous system when treating the condition.

Dr Bendiabdallah has personal experience of the technique, having been treated by Perrin Practitioner Rakhee Mediratta and he explained how he has been significantly helped by The Perrin Technique as well as sharing that the technique has helped numerous patients who he has referred to Rakhee.

It’s wonderful to hear such positive feedback from patients about our Perrin Practitioners and the technique, please do get in touch with us at pr@theperrinclinic.com if you wish to share any testimonials of your personal experience too.

WIGAN CLINIC FUNDRAISED FOR M.E. CHARITY

Sunday 20th March saw the team at Bridgeman Physiotherapy Centre set up their stand at the Run Wigan Festival to offer runners pre and post massages to help fundraise for the F.O.R.M.E. Charity.

F.O.R.M.E. (Fund for Osteopathic Research into M.E.) continues to fund vital research on The Perrin Technique and we are over the moon to share that the Bridgeman Physiotherapy Centre raised an incredible £502.67 on race day! A huge well done to all involved, with special mention to our esteemed PnT Practitioner Sue Capstick who takes it upon herself to raise funds for F.O.R.M.E. each year and support this invaluable charity. She’ll be back fundraising again on 11th September at the Wigan 10k run!

BELGIUM HOSTS PERRIN TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP

Earlier this month Dr Perrin travelled to Belgium to run a course on the lymphatics and The Perrin Technique at the Flanders International College of Osteopathy (FICO) in Antwerp.

His trip was extended to include a visit to the Netherlands, to add on one day of ‘practical’ workshops which had previously been delayed due to COVID-19.

After four days non stop of workshops Dr Perrin returned home via the Eurostar – something which he thoroughly recommends! Check out the photo’s from Antwerp below…
